What are the penalties for first time and repeat offenders?
The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission said 269 people died in alcohol-related accidents and approximately 31,000 Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) arrests in 2010. Compare that to the number to the 409 killed in Driving Under the Influence (DUI)-related deaths and 26,000 DWI arrests in 2006 on Louisiana highways and suddenly Louisiana’s stricter drinking laws not only make sense-they’re obviously saving lives.
